Morphophysiological changes in mitochondria of HEK293 cells under alkaloids treatment

Abstract

The results of cytophysiological studies of HEK293 cells treated with plant alkaloids are present. It is shown that these natural compounds possess broad range of biological activity having both anti- and oxidative properties. Texture analysis method was implemented to quantitatively assess mitochondrion structure changes after the treatment. The results suggest a strong correlation between morphology and distribution of mitochondria in cell cytoplasm with changes in membrane potential level of these organelles during oxidative stress.
